The Amity precision shank drill (PSD) is the newest addition to Amity’s air-seeding equipment line. The PSD is a new concept in precision seeding and fertilizer placement. It has cutting coulters, precision placement openers, disk levelers and a wide pneumatic packer tire, all mounted to an independent linkage. This linkage removes depth control issues of the rigid frame shank unit while retaining all the agronomic benefits of the ground-engaging components listed above. The PSD’s disc levelers ensure that soil from the shank is placed back in front of the packer tire regardless of operating speed, ensuring consistent seed depth across the field.

The Amity PSD was developed with an edge-on shank design, allowing existing openers developed through years of challenging conditions to adapt to the individual linkage. Most of these openers allow for proper nutrient placement at the time of seeding.

Shank pressure and packing pressure are controlled by the operator from the cab. Adjustments to the disc leveler and down pressure allow the producer to design the field finish they desire. Well-defined seed furrows for moisture retention in winter wheat to a smooth flat finish for harvesting pulse crops are available to producers using a single machine. The depth of seed placement is easily accomplished with reliable, accurate colored depth stops located on the machine. The PSD’s packer tire can be adjusted to “skew” it for cleaning of soil buildup on the tire. To minimize the amount of regular service to the machine, the PSD’s linkage is designed with greaseless bushings on all pivot points. This allows for the elimination of daily maintenance required on the drill, keeping the producer seeding in the field.

The PSD’s utilization of many similar components to the original concord Air Till Drill lends to the introduction of the drill as the “concord legacy edition.”
