Senate Ag Committee to hear from Gerstenberger

The Senate Ag Committee has released the list of 17 witnesses that will testify during the second farm bill field hearing May 6 in Frankenmuth, Mich.

Rick Gerstenberger, board chairman of Michigan Sugar Company, will be among the witnesses.

Focused on jobs and the economy, the hearing will include two panels that will testify on agriculture policies, as well as conservation, rural economic development, research, forestry, energy and nutrition.

Participants are as diverse as Michigan agriculture and include crop, livestock, dairy and sugarbeet producers as well as fruit growers, beekeepers, ag processors and others.

The committee is accepting testimony or comments for the official record by no later than May 12.
