The National Farmers Union has created a farm crisis center to provide resources to financially and emotionally stressed farmers struggling in the current down farm economy.

“The banking community, farm credit, USDA lending services are all signaling that there is indeed a lot of stress out there and conditions are getting harder," said Rob Larew, NFU’s senior VP of public policy and communications. "It’s tougher to get loans first of all and folks are troubled managing those loans.”

Larew said the farm crisis center has information on where farmers can receive financial help, mediation and mental health support.

“One of the things that we kept hearing about from those folks that survived the 1980s was that nobody was willing to talk about it until it was too late. That there was so many places where if conversations had started much early, things could have been very different.”
