The USDA has declared 25 Michigan counties as disaster areas because of flooding and drought conditions during the 2016 crop year.

Counties that experienced losses and damages caused by drought conditions from May 25 – Oct. 25, 2016 may qualify for natural disaster assistance as well as counties that experienced excessive rain from April 25 – Oct. 25, 2016.

An additional destination was made in northern Michigan for counties that experienced losses and damages because of hail and high winds from July 8 – Sept. 27, 2016.

Farmers in affected counties have eight months to apply for loans to help cover part of their losses.
