The director-general of the U.N. Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) says ambitious action has to be taken on climate change.

José Graziano da Silva told delegates at the U.N. Climate Change conference that the impacts of climate change are already undermining global food security and nutrition.

Graziano da Silva says it’s time to invest in sustainable and climate-resilient agriculture as part of the climate solution.

Calls for climate change action are more urgent amid fears that President Elect Trump might withdraw the U.S. from the 2015 Paris Agreement on climate change. Several years ago Trump tweeted that climate change is a hoax created by the Chinese to hurt U.S. manufacturing competitiveness.

Graziano da Silva says actions taken to mitigate climate change can make a difference between poverty and prosperity, and between hunger and food security.
