Two major events, Celebrating Idaho Agriculture and Ag Days, will draw hundreds of students, alumni and friends to events on the University of Idaho campus Friday and Saturday, Dec. 2-3.

Sponsored by the UI College of Agricultural and Life Sciences, Celebrating Idaho Agriculture focuses on alumni, friends and students. The events feature a strolling supper that highlights Idaho agricultural products.

Ag Days sessions offer high school students a chance to explore college classes, campus life and livestock and dairy judging. This year’s events will draw participants from Idaho, Washington and Oregon.

Events begin at 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 2, with the CALS Alumni Awards Luncheon in the Vandal Ballroom of the Bruce M. Pitman Center on the Moscow campus. Tickets are $15.

A panel discussion of agricultural industry leaders will follow at 4 p.m. Friday in the Agricultural Science Building Auditorium 106. The panelists will address “Is Agriculture Prepared to Manage Risk in a Changing Landscape?” The session is free and open to the public.

Panelists include Ron Cegnar, president, CEO Partners; Ken Blakeman, general manager, CHS Primeland; Rick Naerebout, director of operations, Idaho Dairymen’s Association; Ron Rowan, director, Beef Northwest.

The college’s Agricultural Economics and Rural Sociology Department Head Cathy Roheim will moderate the session, which focuses on the risks and complexities of the national and global food supply chain.

Friday evening the college will sponsor the “Idaho Agriculture Strolling Supper: Taste your way around the state” event from 6-8:30 p.m. in the UI Animal Pavilion. The pavilion is adjacent to Vandal Brand Meats at 1800 West Sixth St. at the intersection with Farm Road west and south of Perimeter Drive in Moscow. The event will feature live music and dancing. The cost is $25 per person.

Other Celebrating Idaho Agriculture events on Saturday include a pre-game social in the Animal Pavilion from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. and group seating for the UI Vandals vs. Georgia State University Panthers football game.
