Washington State University scientists will host an international conference Aug. 15-17 in SeaTac on new and developing farm technology.
Agricontrol 2016 will include the presentations of more than 90 technical papers and bring together growers, engineers, computer scientists and students from 25 countries, according to a WSU press release.
The gathering will be the fifth biannual conference on agriculture by the International Federation of Automatic Control, a worldwide body founded in 1957 to advance automation. The topics will include drones, robotics and big data.
Conference organizer Manoj Karkee, associate professor in the WSU Department of Biological Systems Engineering, said automation and robotics will make farms safer, less labor intensive, and more efficient and productive.
“If we can produce fruits and vegetables more sustainably and cost-effectively, we can continue to provide high-quality produce to many people at a reasonable cost,” Karkee said in a written statement.
