The White House confirmed that President Obama will sign the GMO disclosure bill that is expected to receive final congressional approval from the House on Thursday.

“While there is broad consensus that foods from genetically engineered crops are safe, we appreciate the bipartisan effort to address consumers' interest in knowing more about their food, including whether it includes ingredients from genetically engineered crops,” said White House spokeswoman Katie Hill.

“We look forward to tracking its progress in the House and anticipate the President would sign it in its current form.”

On Wednesday, the House approved a procedural rule for debating the legislation that will not allow consideration of any amendments. Any changes to the bill would send it back to the Senate, where the compromise was developed.

Leaders of the House Agriculture Committee, Chairman Mike Conaway and ranking member Collin Peterson, said that they expect a majority of both Republicans and Democrats to vote for the legislation on final passage.
