Bayer confirmed Thursday that it raised its bid for Monsanto to about $65 billion.

The St. Louis-based Monsanto turned down a previous offer of $62 billion, but according to a Wall Street Journal report, Bayer hopes the better offer will soften Monsanto’s resistance. Monsanto also has concerns about potential financing and regulatory issues.

Bayer, which is based in Germany, says it has addressed Monsanto’s concerns about financing and regulatory matters. Bayer also said that if necessary, it’s prepared to make certain commitments to regulators to complete the Monsanto acquisition.
