The data are out – obesity rates in the U.S. continue to climb ... yet again.

Center for Disease Control scientists examined trends in the prevalence of adult obesity between 2005 and 2014. They found that 40 percent of women and 35 percent of men are obese. We are just not making progress: a decade ago, 38 percent of women and 34 percent of men were obese.

Sugar has been targeted as Public Enemy No. 1 in the fight against obesity. But is it really where we should be placing all the blame? Take a step back and the numbers just don’t add up. Per capita consumption of added sugars has declined by 15% since 1999. Not only have rates of obesity not gone down, they continue to rise as we eat less added sugars.
