Maui's central valley will become a tinder box within a short time after the last field is harvested.

A new crop should have been planned to replace cane as each field is cleared in order to sustain the lushness and to prevent brush fires.

The fields should be furrowed after each harvest so that the rubbish cane and shrub that grows can be watered down, as necessary, to prevent brush fires. This may be less expensive than fighting fires that will eventually occur on a regular basis. Besides, it would also gives a facade of lushness to the valley.
