new study says consumers don’t know as much about the facts of GMOs as they think.

Conducted by researchers at the University of Florida Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences and Oklahoma State University, the consumer poll asked questions to measure consumers’ knowledge of genetically modified food.

The study found after answering a list of questions testing objective knowledge of GM food, subjective, self-reported knowledge declines somewhat and beliefs about GM food safety increase slightly.

Researchers say 84 percent of those surveyed supported a mandatory GMO food label, while 80 percent of respondents also supported a mandatory label for food containing DNA. Nearly all food contains DNA.
