The third largest beet sugar producer is expanding into cane sugar production.

The Michigan Sugar Company has acquired AmCane Sugar, LLC, a cane sugar refiner and specialty sugar manufacturer.

The acquisition is expected to increase Michigan Sugar’s revenues by over $60 million and increase sugar sales by almost 15 percent. AmCane’s assets include a sugar refinery based in Taylor, Michigan, and a packaging and blending operation in Toledo, Ohio.

The maker of Pioneer Sugar and Big Chief Sugar will now add specialty sugars and organic sugars to their product lineup.
