As expected, President Obama has vetoed the measure passed by both chambers of Congress to kill the Clean Water Act/Waters of the U.S. rule.

National Corn Growers Association President Chip Bowling says the veto is a disappointment, “especially in light of the recent GAO report that says EPA engaged in ‘covert propaganda’ in an effort to sell the American public” on the rule.

Phil Ellis, president of the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association, says the veto makes clear “the president does not understand the role America’s cattle producers, land owners and state governments play in preserving” the nation’s natural resources.

Senate Environment and Public Works Committee Chairman Jim Inhofe says the two courts that have looked at it so far “have determined it is likely illegal and have stopped the rule from going into effect while the litigation continues.”

He also points out the Clean Water/WOTUS rule has been challenged by 32 states.
