A new Michigan State University STEM Center will bring educational opportunities to K-12 students and teachers in the Great Lakes Bay Region.

Nancy Lamb, public affairs director for Dow Chemical, said STEM, or science, technology, engineering and math, is a priority for education in Michigan and across the country.

“We’re in the process right now of evaluating best in practice STEM-related activities and also considering using technology to webcast around the world some of the lab and the experiments in STEM that will be taking place right there in that center.”

She said college students will also have access to educational courses. Area foundations and the Dow Chemical Foundation have invested $10 million into the center. The center, located at the former Michigan Molecular Institute in Midland, is expected to open in May.
