BILLINGS, Mont. (AP)—Sugarbeet growers in northeastern Montana are seeing a record sugar crop this year.
The Billings Gazette reports that Sidney Sugars is close to finishing its harvest, with beet piles nearing 1 million tons at the factory.
The farmers along the Montana-North Dakota border that make up Sidney Sugars are uprooting more than 32 tons an acre. That is 2 tons more than estimates in September.
Agricultural manager Russ Fullmer says the harvest will supply the factory through February.
The factory began processing beets Sept. 28.
