SELMA, Calif.—T. G. Schmeiser Co. Inc. acquired the Smart-Till product line on July 1 from HCC Inc. of Mendota, Ill.

The purchase includes all assets and trade names associated with the Smart-Till product line and its associated parts and components. Over the next weeks, relocation of all manufacturing and administration operations will be shifted from Illinois to the newly constructed Schmeiser manufacturing facility in Selma.

Smart-Till’s unique design allows it to fracture the soil more than 8 inches deep, with little surface disturbance. Its effectiveness comes from its two phases of tine action – ENTRY, or soil displacement, and FRACTURE, when force is applied. The process creates improved air and water exchange, offering many benefits for different applications including vertical tillage and aerating the soil.

T. G. Schmeiser President Andrew Cummings sees potential for the Smart-Till product line to offer water conservation benefits during this time of severe drought.

According to Cummings, “Using the Smart-Till to open the soil in pasture, alfalfa, or cover crop ground, creates slits while lifting the soil without terribly disturbing the plants. When it does rain, the soil will be ready to receive the water more readily as opposed to the rain washing away over the severely dry top layer of soil.”
