Smart Irrigation Month is here! First launched in 2005 to increase public awareness of the importance of water-use efficiency, Smart Irrigation Month continues to gain support from irrigation companies, water providers and other industry stakeholders.

For several years, irrigation firms have played a critical role in working at the grassroots level to gain support from their state and local governments, while also launching corporate campaigns to promote Smart Irrigation Month to their customers and business partners. This year, the Irrigation Association encourages companies from across the industry spectrum — from agriculture dealers to landscape irrigation contractors — to get involved by taking advantage of IA’s free resources and spreading the word on social media.

Here are three simple ways to get involved:

1) Join the Thunderclap. This year, IA is hosting its second annual Thunderclap social media campaign to get the Smart Irrigation Month message to more people than ever before.

To join the campaign through Twitter, Facebook or Tumblr, visit IA’s Thunderclap page. Thunderclap will request permission to send the Smart Irrigation Month message on your behalf to your contacts on July 7 at 12:00 p.m. Eastern. After the campaign is complete, Thunderclap won’t post any additional messages on your behalf.

2) Take a #SmartSelfie. Download our Smart Irrigation Month support sign and snap a selfie to show your support for water-use efficiency! Be sure to tag IA on Facebook (www.facebook.com/irrigationassociation) or Twitter (@IrrigationAssoc) and use the hashtags #SmartIrrigationMonth and #SmartSelfie in your post.

3) Share your Smart Irrigation Month strategy. Join our official list of supporters bycompleting our online form to share what you’ve been doing to promote Smart Irrigation Month this year.
