The Western Australian Farmers Federation wants the existing regulation of the potato market in West Australia retained.

Growers were thinking of going to a deregulated market and doing away with the 1946 Marketing of Potatoes Act.

In supporting the existing regulations, the federation is supporting the state Potato Growers Association. It believes that statutory control has a number of benefits, enabling the industry to provide consistent regional employment, use environmentally sound practices, and provide consumers with a consistent supply of fresh, quality poatoes at a fair price in relation to market forces.

The Federation also believes that transition to a deregulated market will not be possible without serious ramifications on a farm, regional and state level if changes are implemented.
