Australian potato growers are continuing talks with McCain Foods Pty. Ltd. although the two sides remain far apart.

More than 600 growers from Victoria, South Australia and Tasmania said McCain opened negotiations by offering a price increase of A$14 a ton. But the growers said they will need at least double that.

McCain supplier spokesman Phil Beswick said growers will reiterate their original demand of an increase of A$30 a ton. He said that price was not negotiable.
