Northern Ireland seed growers have received increased grants from Seed Potato Promotions to 50 percent from 33.3 percent for the cost of two breeding schemes.

The company said the two schemes are the control of the development of gangrene by fumigation treatment and the purchase of drying equipment.

Eligibility for the grants includes net costs and the costs of chemicals.

The company said it has boosted the grants because it was essential that only seed potatoes of the highest quality are marketed by the Northern Ireland seed potato industry in increasingly competitive world markets.
