Potato Growers of Idaho's Executive Committee agreed to support the development of a national process potato growers association.

At a meeting held at the PGI's office in Blackfoot, ID, Dan Moss, vice president of bargaining, was directed to take Idaho's three-point plan to the Aug. 5 Minneapolis meeting of the Potato Marketing Association of North America.

The three directives would revamp the PMANA. They include 1) Formulate a budget and revise the by-laws of the PMANA; 2) Pursue the hiring of an executive director and necessary support staff; 3) Formulate a plan for funding the organization.

Process contract growers are attempting to gain an additional 75 cents on their contracts to keep up with the cost of producing potatoes. A total of 11 potato grower associations in the U.S. and Canada are involved in the effort.
