NAMPA, ID-Amalgamated Sugar Company LLC, has received an international Return on Environment Partnership Award from BetzDearborn of Trevose, PA, for eliminating objectionable odors through an improved water and wastewater treatment program at its beet processing plant in Nampa, ID. Annual operating costs were reduced by $180,352 as well.

The award is presented worldwide to a select group of industrial, commercial and institutional establishments whose strong working relationship with BetzDearborn has resulted in significant environmental, health and safety benefits. The company supplies chemicals and engineered programs for wastewater treatment.

Amalgamated had made efforts in the past to eliminate odors from the plant but was unsuccessful. The companies worked closely together and introduced a series of odor- control products and process protocols that inhibited odor production and chemically scavenged any residual odors in the beet-water flume.

The company's odor-control plan eliminated much of the odor one year ahead of schedule and neighboring industries recognized its success.
