Idaho Sugarbeet Production Increases

Based on Sept. 1 conditions, Idaho sugarbeet production is forecast at 6.66 million tons, up 2 percent from 2017 production, according to the USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service.

Harvested area in Idaho, at 162,000 acres, is down 4,000 acres from 2017. Yield is expected to be 41.1 tons per acre, down 0.1 ton from Aug. 1, but up 1.9 tons from 2017.

Sugarbeet production throughout the Northwest also showed an increase.

Production in Oregon is forecast at 370,000 tons, up 11 percent from last year. Harvested area, at 9,600 acres, is up 500 acres, while yield is expected to be 38.5 tons per acre, down 0.8 a ton from Aug. 1, but up 1.8 ton from 2017.

Washington sugarbeet production is forecast at 89,000 tons, up 2 percent from 2017 production. Harvested area, at 1,800 acres, is unchanged from 2017, while yield is expected to be 49.2 tons per acre, up 0.6 a ton from Aug. 1 and up 1 ton from 2017.
