SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif.—Hortau, a provider of precision irrigation management systems and services for agriculture since 2002, has announced the hiring of Trevor Mecham as its vice president of business development.

Mecham will be in charge of developing new ventures, partnerships and additional revenue streams for Hortau within the agriculture industry.

Mecham comes to Hortau with a wealth of experience in the ag sector, starting with his roots growing up on a family farm in Southern Idaho, followed by 20 plus years in the precision ag and tech industries working in various capacities with John Deere, Leica Geosystems, CNH Industrial and Uptake.

Hortau's crop stress management platform reports to growers how crops are faring in real time—before stresses such as drought or lack of aeration can have a negative impact on a crop. This proprietary, plant-centric approach measures plant stress using soil tension, ensuring optimal crop growth, and reducing water and energy consumption, as well as environmental impacts such as leaching.
