U.S. Agriculture Secretary Sonny Perdue says the president made the right decision to remove the U.S. from the Paris Climate Change Accord.

In a prepared statement, Perdue says the agreement would have had negligible impact on world temperatures, especially since other countries were not being held to the same standards as the U.S.

In announcing the U.S. pullout, President Trump left the door open to reenter the agreement.

“I’m willing to immediately work with Democratic leaders to either negotiate our way back into [the Paris accord] under the terms that are fair to the United States and its workers, or to negotiate a new deal that protects our country and its taxpayers,” said Trump.

Perdue says the USDA uses sound science to develop better methods of farming in a climate that he says has been changing since the planet was formed. He says farmers have persevered through floods, droughts, and natural disasters and will continue to adapt.
