U.S. Trade Representative Michael Froman and trade ministers from the 11 other countries in the Trans-Pacific Partnership have signed the deal at a ceremony in New Zealand.

But the TPP agreement needs ratification in each country to go forward and it’s unlikely that will happen in the U.S. before the November elections. Froman says he’s confident Congress will see the benefits of the Trans Pacific Partnership and will have the bipartisan support it needs to pass.

Most major U.S. ag groups support its passage. The National Corn Growers Association supports TPP and wants it approved this year.

The National Farmers Union remains opposed to the TPP.

The 12 countries in the deal are the U.S., Japan, Canada, Mexico, Australia, New Zealand, Vietnam, Brunei, Chile, Malaysia, Peru and Singapore.
