U.S. Ag Secretary Tom Vilsack will travel to Japan next week in support of the Trans Pacific Partnership trade deal.

Vilsack will meet with Japanese Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries Hiroshi Moriyama, Minister of Health, Labor and Welfare Yasuhisa Shiozaki and other Japanese and U.S. government officials next Thursday and Friday.

Vilsack says he will underscore how the TPP will strengthen trade throughout the Pacific Rim and the importance of U.S.-Japanese trade to the prosperity of both countries.

The secretary will also meet with U.S. exporters, Japanese importers and participate in a Town Hall meeting with Japanese high school and college students and young farmers.

Japan purchased more than $13 billion in U.S. food and agricultural products in FY 2015.
