BOISE-The Idaho Department of Environmental Quality is seeking public comment on a draft wastewater resuse permit renewal for The Amalgamated Sugar Company LLC in Nampa.

The permit allows the company to continue operating a wastewater treatment facility and reuse system at the sugar beet processing facility for another five years. Wastewater at the facility is currently discharged to the city's publicly owned treatment works - the permit would allow treated wastewater to be land applied at the company's reuse site as a backup to discharging to the city, according to DEQ.

The company is required to show how it will continue to address health and environmental concerns, including contamination prevention efforts.

Written comments on the draft permit can be submitted until 5 p.m. Dec. 26. The draft permit and staff analysis are available for public review at the DEQ office in Boise and on the department's website. Submit comments electronically via the website or by email to larry.waters@deq.idaho.gov.
