One of the more controversial items on the agenda for this summer's National Potato Council meeting will be the proposal to move the NPC office from Denver to Washington, DC.

A special afternoon business meeting of NPC delegates has been called for Friday, July 13, for a vote on the matter. NPC delegates number 200. It will take a two-thirds vote of the delegates to approve a bylaw change to move the office.

The special meeting was called by President Allen Olberding 30 days before the summer meeting so delegates could prepare for the vote. States not able to send all their delegates can gather proxy votes.

The meeting is set for July 11-13 at the Best Western Lakeway Inn in Bellingham, WA. Those wanting to register may call the Washington Potato Commission at (509) 765-8845 or the NPC office at (303) 773-9295. Reservations at the Inn may be made through Kennewick Travel at (800) 323-8728.

The matter has been in serious discussion by delegates for at least two years. There are strong arguments for and against a move.
