The USDA NASS has provided an update on the 2025 U.S. sugarbeet crop planting in its weekly crop progress report (https://www.nass.usda.gov/) from this week. Here’s a sample of what the latest report showed.

Michigan - Growers in the state are ever so close to being done with sugarbeet planting with 93 percent of the beets in the ground, which is well ahead of the 70 percent a week ago. That is also ahead of last year’s 71 percent as well as the five-year average of 70 percent. Thirty percent of the crop has emerged compared to 5 percent last week.

Idaho – Idaho growers are also darn near done planting sugarbeets with planting standing at 99 percent at the time of the report, well ahead of last year when planting was 78 percent done. The five-year average is 86 percent. The 99 percent on this week’s report also shows a very modest increase over last week’s 93 percent. The NASS reports 45 percent of the beets have emerged.

Oregon – Across the border in Oregon, sugarbeet planting has wrapped up. Seventy-five percent of the beets have emerged, compared to 50 percent of the crop last week.

WyomingThe Cowboy state shows 81 percent of the crop in the ground, well ahead of last week’s 52 percent and a bit ahead of last year’s figure of 73 percent at this time of year. The five-year average is 56 percent. Six percent of the beets have emerged.

Minnesota – NASS reports that Minnesota growers have 77 percent of the crop planted, a huge jump from last week’s 44 percent. Last year, 83 percent of the crop had been planted by this time of year with the five-year average at 45 percent.

North DakotaNorth Dakota sugarbeets are 74 percent planted, which is equal to last year but well ahead of the 35 percent average.
