Rains Help Sugar Content In Sugarbeets

It’s been going well, said Adam Bauer of Laracha Farms in Reese.

“Yields are increasing with the rains,” he told Michigan Farm News. “We’ve been having cooler temperatures, so that helps with the sugar increase, which is good for the factory.”

After sugarbeets are harvested, Bauer said they are transported to a receiving facility — be it a piling yard or factory location.

“The beets are then dumped over a piler, are cleaned again … and they get hauled to the factories for slicing,” Bauer added. “Sugarbeets are very vital to our operation.”
