Sidney Sugars recently recognized two of its growers for achieving 20/20 status. To qualify for this exclusive club, a sugarbeet producer must average over 20 tons per acre and 20 percent sugar for the entire crop.
Bryce Jorgensen, a sugarbeet grower in Savage, Mont., averaged 29 tons per acre and 20.09 percent sugar on his 2020 crop. The Mortenson Farm Partnership in Buford, N.D., averaged 26 tons per acre with a district high of 20.17 percent sugar over 850 acres. The Mortenson Farm Partnership consists of Joe Mortenson, his father Steve Mortenson, and about nine full-time hired employees. The Mortensons have had many years of experience growing sugarbeets. Their sugarbeet growing operation started many years ago with Joe's grandfather, Emery Baxter, who was a long-time Buford area farmer.
