The University of Wyoming’s Powell Research and Extension Center (PREC) hosts the annual field day at 3 p.m. Thursday, July 18, at 747 Road 9 in Powell, Wyo.

There will be field tours, poster sessions, interactive presentations and family activities.

“This year, we have expanded the program to include more short demonstrations where attendees can view up close some of the devices and techniques our scientists use,” says Jim Heitholt, PREC director.

Field tours allow all participants the opportunity to view crops such as barley, sugar beets, corn and dry beans. They also will see research studies evaluating varieties, irrigation rates, soil fertility and disease control.

The poster session will include presentations from graduate students, interns and industry representatives. They will discuss topics such as seeding rates, row spacing, remote sensing and dry bean, sugar beet and corn trials.

There will be interactive presentations on water in the soil profile, rooting characteristics and the use of moisture sensors from PREC’s irrigation specialist. There also will be a session on weed identification at different growth stages.

Vendors, sponsors and other groups will be present to provide literature and other information about their products.

A free dinner at 5:30 p.m. concludes the day’s events.

All age groups are welcome to come and enjoy the tours, free dinner and festivities, Heitholt says.

No RSVP is required, but people are encouraged to contact PREC at (307) 754-2223 or sfulton3@uwyo.edu if planning to attend.
