The weather has not been ideal this year for farmers and planting season. Rain has plagued the Midwest for months. Nutra-Crop president Ed Ummach understands the frustrations that farmers are having. Ummach has a few reminders for growers this season as they tackle one of the hardest planting years.

"Nitrogen, phosphorous, potassium, calcium, and magnesium and a host of other nutrients are needed for strong plant health,” said Ummach. “Excessive rainfall and oversaturation impacts nutrients in several ways, including causing soil compaction, keeping oxygen out and non-mobile nutrients away from roots.”

In a tough season, it is critical to not skip important steps like soil testing. “Understanding what your soil has and what it is lacking helps make smarter nutrient input selections,” said Ummach. The right nutrient at the right time in the right place can make all the difference for a successful growing season.
