Washington, D.C. – The American Sugarbeet Growers Association (ASGA) has announced the hiring of Dr. Nicholas Storer as Vice President of Science and Innovation, beginning Jan. 1, 2024.
Dr. Storer recently served as Stewardship and Regulatory Director for Corteva Agriscience. He received his Bachelor’s degree in Natural Sciences from the University of Cambridge, his Master’s degree in Zoology from the University of Glasgow, and his Ph.D. in Entomology from North Carolina State University.
“There are tremendous challenges and opportunities for our industry in the years ahead. Dr. Storer’s deep knowledge and broad experience in both crop protection and seed genetics will provide the leadership and guidance needed for our industry to remain efficient and competitive for decades to come,” said Nate Hultgren, President of ASGA.
“The future of our industry depends on strong farm policy, fair trade policies, and harnessing robust research for on-farm improvements, which is essential for our farm families to succeed economically,” said Luther Markwart, CEO of the ASGA. “Dr. Storer will play a critically important role in protecting and expanding production tools for our growers, engaging on federal regulatory issues, and embracing cutting-edge technologies to further increase our efficiencies. Collaborating with a talented pool of industry researchers and agronomists on the toughest issues is what is required of our organization today.”

Sugarbeets are grown on over 1.1 million acres in 11 states by 10,000 family farmers who, as members of various farmer-owned cooperatives, own all 20 processing factories in the upper Midwest and West. Our factories are run with 100 percent union labor. The sugar produced from the beet sugar industry is approximately 54 percent of all the sugar grown in the United States and is essential to the food security of our nation.
