The Hyrum, Utah City Museum will highlight some history of the sugarbeet industry in Cache Valley with a presentation this weekend by Dr. Matthew Godfrey. The free event takes place Saturday, August 26 at 11 a.m. in the Hyrum City Council Chambers.

A flyer put out by the museum states, “Did you know that the formation of the sugarbeet industry in Cache Valley was not always nice and sweet? In the late 1940s-early 1920s, the Amalgamated Sugar Company thwarted the efforts of the West Cache Sugar Company to create an independent sugar enterprise.”

Dr. Godfrey’s presentation will cover that part of the sugar industry. Dr. Godfrey, a Cache Valley native is the Senior Managing Historian for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints History Department.

The museum is located at 50 West Main Street in Hyrum. For more information, contact (435) 245-0208.
