East Grand Forks Fire Department Responds To Machine Fire And Burn Victim At American Crystal Sugar

On Monday, Feb. 27, at approximately 5:10 p.m., the East Grand Forks Fire Department was dispatched to American Crystal Sugar for a pulp dryer fire with a burn victim.

The first unit on scene was directed to the pulp dryer on fire, with the fire extending to a bag house. Fire crews advanced handlines to the fire and began cooling the equipment down. Once the equipment was cooled, American Crystal personnel opened hatch doors to the equipment, and any remaining fire was extinguished. Fire crews and American Crystal staff searched for any further extension and found none. Fire Department was on the scene for approximately three and a half hours.

One American Crystal employee was transported by Altru ambulance to the emergency room.

East Grand Forks Fire Department responded with 21 personnel. The East Grand Forks Police Department assisted the fire department and Altru ambulance.
