The U.S. Beet Sugar Association (USBSA) announced today that Cassie Bladow will join the association as president on May 4.

“The sugarbeet industry is thankful that Cassie is bringing her incredible leadership skills and extensive knowledge of our unique business back to the U.S. Beet Sugar Association,” says John McCreedy, a member of the USBSA board of trustees and president and CEO of Amalgamated Sugar. “Her expertise navigating complex legislation and building coalitions on Capitol Hill will be critical as our industry faces the COVID-19 pandemic and the ongoing agricultural recession.”

Bladow most recently served as chief of staff to Senator John Hoeven of North Dakota. Prior, she was vice president at USBSA. Bladow grew up on a sugarbeet farm in Minnesota and is a graduate of North Dakota State University.

McCreedy notes that Bladow’s professional and personal experience with the industry spans a lifetime and gives her unique insight into the issues facing America’s sugarbeet farmers and domestic beet sugar processors.

“The importance of sugarbeet farmers and their farmer-owned cooperatives to our food supply and the rural economy is something I am passionate about because it’s crucial to the farms and small communities where I grew up,” Bladow says. “I look forward to hitting the ground running in service to this incredible industry that is providing an essential service during this difficult time.”

The USBSA was founded in 1911 in Washington, D.C., to represent the nation’s manufacturers of beet sugar. It currently represents all U.S. beet sugar processors, which include nine farmer-owned cooperatives that operate 22 factories processing sugarbeets grown in 11 states.
