The American Sugarbeet Growers Association (ASGA) announces the selection of Todd Lackman, son of Scott and Audrey Lackman of Hysham, Mont., as the 2019 ASGA intern.

This eight-week summer internship in Washington, D.C., is designed to encourage students from sugarbeet-producing areas to become familiar with and engage in the political process. The goal for this internship is to inspire young agriculture leaders to communicate the importance of appropriate policies and regulations that impact farmers  to members of Congress and the administration. It is a tremendous opportunity to work in a fast-paced international city and meet many congressmen and senators.

“With his impressive leadership skills and background in the FFA and a variety of other groups, Todd will be joining our team of top professionals to work on key issues for our industry,” says ASGA executive vice president Luther Markwart. “He will assist ASGA staff on a variety of tasks including covering hearings in the House and Senate and conducting research on a variety of agriculture and trade issues. His work will benefit the sugar industry and other parts of American agiculture. The personal growth and confidence resulting from this experience is phenominal.”

Lackman was valedictorian of the Forsyth High School class of 2015 and is currently a senior at Montana State University, majoring in agricultural education. “After completion of the internship in Washington, D.C., Todd will have the necessary skills and tools to advocate for young farmers and sugarbeet growers in Montana,” says Markwart.
