The American Feed Industry Association says US ag exports are increasing, but so is competition in the global market.

Gina Tumbarello, director of international policy and trade, says the Trans-Pacific Partnership was an opportunity to address the loss of market share in that 12-country region.

“To help us compete on a more level playing field in the region. Not having this agreement is really to our detriment. It means we’re going to continue losing market share,” says Tumbarello.

She says there is still hope that the administration can negotiate new trade agreements with countries in that area.

“I think there’s a lot to be gained in that region and if it’s not through this multilateral trade agreement, then hopefully our administration will see the value in moving forward still with trade agreements even if its bilaterally,” says Tumbarello.
