A federal appeals court has denied an appeal from Syngenta and the class-action lawsuit against the company will move forward.

Corn farmers are seeking more than $5 billion in damages against the company for potential corn sales lost in fall 2013 and later. China rejected large shipments of the corn trait because it had yet to be approved.

According to Agri-Pulse, the panel of three judges called the lower court’s decision “well-researched and reasoned."

In a statement following the appeals court ruling, Syngenta said the decision is one step in a long process and the decision delays, but does not preclude a possible future review.

The trial could begin next year.
