The House has moved forward on the GMO labeling bill.

The House passed a procedural vote Wednesday that sets up a final vote before the end of the week when Congress is set to take a six-week recess. The move limits floor debate and prohibits amendments to the bill.

A White House spokesperson said while there is broad consensus that foods from genetically engineered crops are safe, the bipartisan effort addresses consumers’ interest in knowing more about their food and expects President Obama to support the bill in its current form.
