Reports say DuPont will cut about 1,700 jobs early next year in further preparation for its merger with Dow Chemical Company. The layoffs would be in DuPont’s home state of Delaware.

When it announced the merger in mid-December, DuPont said it planned to cut its global work force of about 63,000 employees by 10%.

The merger of the two former rivals would split the new company into three businesses that focus on agriculture, industrial materials and specialty products, including food ingredients.
