When we saw the headline, "Sugar is More Harmful Than Marijuana, Americans Say" we, like many others, thought we were reading a headline from the satirical news site, The Onion.

Turns out, a small poll (1,000 phone interviews) actually had been conducted. And the media, not surprisingly, took the funny headline and ran with it.

In all seriousness, though, comparing the health benefits of all-natural sugar with marijuana and tobacco is so absurd it doesn't warrant a response. Sugar, or sucrose, has been consumed safely for centuries and, when consumed in moderation, has been and should continue to be part of a balanced diet and healthy lifestyle. There simply is no comparison.
