SCOTTSBLUFF, Neb.-Monday marked the first day of the sugarbeet campaign but rain put a stop to the harvest.
Despite the weather, agriculturalist, Terry Butcher with Western Sugar, says growers were able to have 40 loads of beets waiting to be processed this weekend.
Butcher says the farmers may have to wait until late Tuesday or early Wednesday to continue work in the fields.
He says he's confident to have another successful sugarbeet season.
"We're pretty optimistic about another big crop, very comparable to last year. Things are just a little delayed here. We're fired up for our regular harvest Oct. 6."
Butcher hopes a record crop is produced this year, similar to last year.
