South Dakota Sen. Tim Johnson voted for the Senate farm bill that passed this week while Sen. John Thune voted against it.
Johnson tells reporters while he doesn't agree with everything in it, he supports it.
"This was a good bill that contains important reforms to our farm program, reduces the deficit, invests in our rural economy and gives producers long-term certainty."
Thune, however, says the bill doesn't do enough to reform the commodity title and "fails to rein in redundancy and waste in food assistance programs."
Thune says he's opposed to the expensive fixed target price and counter cyclical program for peanuts and rice. He praised the conservation and crop insurance provisions.
Johnson says he's urging the House to pass a farm bill soon but expects that process will be much more of a challenge.
