Thanks to improved ethanol margins, Valero Energy has restarted its ethanol plants in Albion, Neb., and Bloomingburg, Ohio.

And the company says it will resume operations at its only remaining offline facility, in Linden, Ind., within the next couple of weeks.

Valero idled those three plants in June of last year due to negative margins. But Valero spokesman Bill Day tells Reuters that margins have now improved to where the plants can be operated at a profitable level.

Lower corn prices and higher ethanol prices are behind the improved outlook.
