Mike Corey, executive director of the Maine Potato Board, announced his resignation yesterday at a board meeting.

Corey, who has held the position for about six years, gave no reason other than it was time for him to move on to other opportunities.

Citing the McCain Foods expansion and the efforts to save the Agricultural Research Service Plant, Corey says he's proud of the successes of the past few years.

Corey notified Board President Tom Qualey of his resignation on Tuesday. The Board will begin a search for a replacement, hopefully having someone in place by the first of the new year or shortly thereafter. The Board approved a severance package for Corey.

Don Flannery, assistant director, has been named acting director
