McCain Foods marketing vice president Mark McCauley told a Canadian food conference the company is looking for potential sources of oil made from GM-free oilseeds in case customers request it.
McCain, already using non-GMO potatoes as a result of consumer demand, said because oil from GM oilseeds does not contain the modified gene there has been no demands as yet.
McCauley said McCain believes in GM technology, but consumer pressure against GM food is here to stay.
